SuperSystem 2: The Bible of Poker

If there’s one single book you’d find on every serious poker player’s bookshelf, it would likely be Super System by Doyle Brunson. Players lugged around worn, dog-eared copies of the book for years, as it was one of the few strategy books about poker in existence back in the 1970’s when it was originally published. Even better was the fact that Doyle Brunson was the author, a player regarded as one of the greatest No Limit Texas Hold’em players ever.

Brunson published an updated version, Super System 2 in 2005, which contains new chapters and revised strategies to reflect some of the changes in poker over the years since the original book was published. Clocking in at more than 600 pages, Super System 2 covers nearly every aspect of winning poker, with strategies and tips for a variety of games.

The book is structured so that well-known poker professionals contribute chapters on the games they specialize in. So not only do you get Doyle’s strategy for playing No Limit Texas Hold’em, but you also get chapters on Limit Hold’em (Jennifer Harman), Pot Limit Omaha (Lyle Berman), and Triple Draw (Daniel Negreanu).

While most sections assume that you understand the basics of the game, they’re written with beginners in mind, and take time to introduce you to each game. You’ll find basic instructions on how each game is played and how the betting works, as well as more advanced tips and strategies for a variety of situations.

If you were only allowed to have ne poker book in your library, Super System 2 would be a great choice. Poker players have been reading and profiting from its knowledge for decades, and it was recently revised and updated so that it’s better than ever.
