Gavin Smith Named WPT Player of the Year

Gavin Smith has captured the World Poker Tour (WPT) player of the year honors, finishing ahead of Michael “the Grinder” Mizrachi. Previous winners of the WPT player of the year award include Howard Lederer (Season 1), Erick Lindgren (Season 2) and Daniel Negreanu (Season 3).

Buoyed by making three WPT televised final tables, Smith dominated the WPT’s fourth season. Smith took home the title at the Mirage Poker Open in May 2005, as well as nothcing a third place finish at the Doyle Brunson North American Challenge in October 2005, and fourth place in the Gold Strike World Poker Open in January.
