Yep, I’m subjecting you to another MySpace review: This time, the spawn - Todd Brunson.

As classy as Doyle’s page is, I find it hard to comprehend how tacky Todd’s is - a purple pirate background? I could understand it (maybe?) if there was some basis in his image for it. Something he’s endorsing? I don’t get it.

Yeah, so you can see design is fairly lame. But, I do like the music choice, “Crazy Bitch” by Buckcherry, so that’s cool. On the other hand, there’s a video of dogs singing that I just don’t get.

Of course, there’s the obligatory friend of Pamela Anderson and big breasteses from back when Pamela thought online poker was a good thing but now, not so much.

The comments section is huge, because anyone with a lot of profile views geets a lot of comments spamming all kinds of crap. And this section is so wide that you have to scroll sideways to see it.

I don’t get it. The only reason for a celebrity to have a myspace page is Marketing (well, two, if you’re trying to pick up college chicks)Â - so wouldn’t you pay a little extra to have someone throw together a decent-looking site? Or, alternatively, ask your dad for his html and change the colors?

Yeah, Todd hasn’t added me as a friend yet, either, just like his father. Don’t suppose I’ll be getting that add now, will I?

Peter Feldman captured his first major poker torunament victory on May 29th, defeating Gavin Smith for the title at the 2006 WSOPC New Orleans tournament. Smith came into the final table with a sizable chip lead, and looked poised to steamroll his way to victory. Feldman bided his time, though, and managed to make the most of his big hands, including doubling through Smith just a few hands into heads-up action when his KK held up versus 44.

Feldman took home $532,950 in prize money, with Smith winning $293,930 for second place.

Feldman plays professionally (primarily online under the handle Nordberg) and this was his first victory in a major tournament. He’s no stranger to brick and mortar tournaments, though, having cashed previously at the 2006 Borgata Winter Open for $73,914, finishing 7th. His poker blog can be found at Nord’s Poker.

In the world of poker, Carlos Mortensen is hard to miss. The half-Spanish, half-Danish player (whose nickname is “El Matador”) is one of the stars of the tournament circuit, putting together a powerful combination of exciting style, cool demeanor, and more than his fair share of good looks.

Mortensen is best known in the poker world for his victory at the 2001 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, where he won $1.5 million, along with the prestige of winning poker’s biggest event. Until Australia Joe Hachem won the Main Event in 2005, Mortensen was the only non-US player to win the event.

Mortensen also won $1 million at the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship in 2004, with more than $3.5 million in career tournament winnings through 2005.

Mortensen was born in Ecuador in 1972 to a Spanish mother and Danish father, moving with his family to Spain when he was 15 years old. Originally a chess-player, he first played poker at his chess club and was soon hooked.

When he first began to play, playing poker for real money was technically illegal in Spain, a fact that didn’t stop him from losing $100 the first time he played. He returned the next day, ready to win his money back, and hasn’t stopped playing poker since.

Mortensen quickly decided to pursue poker full-time as a profession, quitting his job and playing full-time. He and his wife would soon move to the US, the world’s poker capital, with only “$2,800 and a backpack”, according to Mortensen. He quickly learned English and immersed himself in the world of poker, building the skills and experience that would enable him to win the WSOP Main Event just four years later.

Today Mortensen travels frequently between the US and Europe to play in tournaments, often with his wife by his side.

One of the rising Russian poker stars is actually a familiar face in the sports world, but with a tennis racket in his hand.

Former world #1 tennis player Yevgeny Kafelnikov has sworn off serving aces in favor of begging to be dealt aces in his quest to become a professional poker player.

In an interview with London’s The Independent Kafelnikov is quoted as saying: “You need guts in poker, as in tennis. And if you don’t believe in your ability, you don’t win. In tennis I believed in myself, that’s why I had so much success.”

Part of the allure of poker is that he finds it exciting “Because you win not with the cards but with your skills. With body language you can win a game, but also you can lose a game.”

While the US has more than a few famous celebrities who regularly play at poker tournaments (including Ben Affleck, Jennifer Tilly, James Woods, Jerry Buss, and Tobey Maguire), most readily admit that while fans of the game, they have no allusions of becoming a poker professional.

Kafelnikov, however, seems to be serious about his dedication to the game, as he’s reportedly put many hours in at high-stakes cash games in Moscow. He’s won nearly $50,000 playing in tournaments in the US and in Russia, including money finishes in 3 different events at the 2005 World Series of Poker, as well as multiple money finishes in the Korona Russian Poker Championships in 2004.

Only the future will tell if Kafelnikov can duplicate his success on the tennis courts at the poker tables, but he seems to be bringing the same focus and dedication that made him the world’s best tennis player, so it wouldn’t be surprising at all to find him serving up aces to the world of poker as well.

Since the 1980s Jennifer Tilly has been best known as an actress, having appeared in well over 100 movies and television shows such as Bound, Bride of Chucky, Monsters Inc., and Liar Liar, including an Oscar nomination in 1994 for her role in Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway.

Tilly is quickly become better known in recent years, however, for her work at the poker tables instead of her movie roles. After appearing on the televised poker shows Celebrity Poker and Hollywood Home Game she began dating poker pro Phil Laak, who began to teach her more about the game.

The pair proved to be a powerful duo during the 2005 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Tilly entered the Ladies Event on the same day that her boyfriend Laak was playing in the $2,500 Pot Limit Hold’em tournament. Each powered their way through their respective tournaments until they were both heads-up with only one opponent, battling for a coveted WSOP bracelet.

Laak lost his battle with Johnny Chan (who claimed his record 10th WSOP bracelet that day) but Tilly held on and won the Ladies Event, taking home $158,000 and a gold bracelet. While some tried to chalk her victory up as a lucky fluke, she’s continued to play well after her WSOP win, including a victory in the World Poker Tour’s annual Ladies Night episode.

Tilly has claimed that winning a WSOP bracelet felt better than winning an Oscar, so we’ll likely continue to see the lovely actress at the poker tables in coming years.
